Cookie policy

This page explains how the FilmFreebies Creative Academy uses cookies and similar browser storage.

Cookies

The Academy does not set a login cookie. It sets one session cookie so the same page is not counted twice in one visit. Google Analytics sets cookies so we can count page views and returning visits. We do not use advertising cookies.

Cookies set on this site
NameWho sets itPurposeHow long
PHPSESSIDAcademyRemembers which pages were already counted in this visit, so a refresh does not add another viewUntil you close the browser
_gaGoogle AnalyticsTells repeat visits apart so page counts are not all treated as new visitorsUp to 2 years
_ga_ZQEGXMJW7QGoogle AnalyticsStores the state of this site's measurement IDUp to 2 years

You can block or delete these cookies in your browser. The lessons still work. You can also use Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Local storage on your device

The Academy uses your browser's local storage, which works like a small notebook kept on your own device, to make learning easier. It is never sent to our server or to Google Analytics.

What the Academy stores in your browser
NamePurposeHow long
ffa-doneLessons you marked as completeUntil you clear it
ffa-lastThe last lesson you opened, for the "continue" cardUntil you clear it
ffa-themeYour light or dark theme choiceUntil you clear it
ffa-exam-…Your exam scores, once exams are availableUntil you clear it

The Academy also keeps an offline copy of pages you visit and of its design files in your browser's cache, so lessons open quickly and can be read without a connection.

Google Fonts

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. Google Fonts does not set cookies for this purpose, but Google receives basic technical information such as your IP address when the fonts load.

Managing storage

You can clear cookies, local storage and cached files at any time in your browser settings. Clearing them resets your lesson progress and theme choice. Clearing the Analytics cookies only resets the visit count in your browser.
